Dumitrica
Bogdan Dumitrica's work is informed by his love of music and literature. This is in keeping with surrealist tradition and brings to light the movement's synesthetic nature.
This body of work was created as a direct response to John Adams's musical composition, "El Dorado," and its haunting second movement, "Soledades" (Solitudes). Dumitrica's paintings allow us to see Adams's music.
Dumitrica portrays the "El Dorado" odyssey not as a journey in the literal sense but as an existential trip marked by departure, solitude, and the bittersweet recognition of life's transience. His use of trains, ships, and architectural fragments as vessels of perpetual motion creates symbols of humanity's ceaseless searching, mirroring Adams' musical exploration of yearning and isolation.
Dumitrica is a skilled painter, which is made apparent by his use of light, texture, and atmospheric effects that demonstrate his mastery and connection to traditional painting techniques transcended to contemporary surrealist concepts.
Bogdan Dumitrica is a Romanian-born artist living in Los Angeles.
